Sony Xperia mobile phone - Xperia Z5

Mobile Phone | At IFA 2015 Sony announced the Xperia Z5 range, a trio of new smartphones, As well and the Compact and Premium versions, the regular Xperia Z5 is sits in the middle of the price scale and the same goes for its specs, and it's here and this is our simple review.

The Xperia Z5 has almost-all-glass design, as with all glass-backed phones, however, if you buy one of these, you'll need to be careful how you handle it.

Mobile Phone | Picks from the critics:

Xperia Z5
Definitely, the Xperia Z5 is a solid flagship smartphone from Sony and an improvement on the Z3+. We certainly like the new frosted glass rear cover and the addition of a fingerprint scanner in that slim power button. The camera isn't great compared to the best phone cameras out there though, and you can get a better phone for similar money. The price has dropped, and it's now a decent-value waterproof flagship with a Micro-SD card slot. However, you can't use it underwater, and there are newer rivals which are better value, take better photos and have better performance. says pcadvisor

Xperia Z5
Although the Xperia  Z5 is very good, it slips slightly behind its rivals in most departments. Its screen, camera and battery life are all excellent, but the Samsung Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6s are superior across the board, while the LG G4 offers more flexibility and an equally strong package for less money.

However, it’s good to see Sony finally upping its game and lavishing some upgrades worthy of the name on its flagship phone. With an impressive new camera module, a fingerprint reader and refined design, it’s a highly competent handset that, for fans of Sony phones, raises the bar significantly over the Xperia Z3 and Z3plus.

If you want to the combination of weatherproofing and the microSD slot, then this is the phone for you, but for me, it isn’t quite the match of its rivals. says alphr

Xperia Z5
The Xperia Z5 isn't as perfect as it should be, but it does have all the right parts.

After the abomination that was the Xperia Z3+, it would have been easy for the company to slip out of the market it was already struggling in. It might have just given up and walked out to sea if it had a similar experience here.

It's still expensive, and that's an issue. I can't help but feel if Sony dropped the price a further £50 on both this and the Xperia Z5 Compact, we'd see much better sales for their line of phones.

If you're going to buy a smartphone from Sony, make it this one. The Xperia Z5 is the best phone Sony has ever produced and it's up there as one of the better Android phones on the market right now. says techradar
